I have heard pretty much every excuse in the book. It is amazing what people will say when they are unmotivated or don’t really want to face the truth. I understand it for the most part. I, as a human, am guilty of it some times as well. There are days when you know you need to work out, but you just can’t seem to muster up the will power to hit the gym. I understand that completely. That is human nature. That happens to everyone. The ones that get result know how to develop the mental will power to get themselves to the gym or through a workout regardless of how they are feeling. Those who don’t do that continue to make excuses on why they aren’t getting results.

I heard a story the other day from an instructor of mine. We were chatting about the subject of obesity and comfort foods. He informed me that people don’t notice what or how they are eating. They just eat. He told me this story (and let me set up this guy for you: He is an older gentleman, health FANATIC, type 1 diabetic, fit as a fiddle) when he was at a Super Bowl party. He got there and started snacking on chips, then pretzels, then had some pizza (mind you this guy is a health freak, and a diabetic, so he needs to watch what he eats). He capped the night off by having some ice cream. He had his ice cream in a bowl and start chatting with someone, next thing he knows, he looks down and his ice cream was gone. He said out loud “what happen to my ice cream?”. He knows he ate it, but he was not aware of eating it, nor was he aware when he easily snacked on all the great good that usually accompanies a Super Bowl party.
How many times has that happen to you? I know it has happened to me quite a few times. So why did I tell you this story? I want you to know it happens to everyone! And I can sit here all day and try to tell you to be conscious of what you eat, and more B.S., but the reality is things the the above are going to happen. Don’t let it spiral you!
Take a bad day, a bad weekend, a bad week, whatever, put it behind you and keep moving forward! And for crying out loud don’t sit there and tell me you are going to diet around the holidays! Holidays are time to celebrate something. Good people, family, food. Enjoy it! Don’t be that person who doesn’t have a hot dog because they are on a diet (unless you are on special orders from a doctor – always listen to doctors!). Enjoy the holiday – just don’t have the holiday follow you into the next day, or next week.
Think LONG term with your eating habits. Like really long term – the rest of your life long term. You cannot tell me that one family BBQ, or one thanksgiving weekend will destroy your eating habits for the rest of your life.
As always, email me with questions/comments/concerns, or leave a comment. I will get back to it.
Hear me out on this one -
How many people do you know are on a diet right now? How many people do you know have dieted in the past? How many of those diets stuck? How many people do you know are on their second, third, forth, fifth diet?
Most people diet before a wedding, reunion, resolution, or a variety of other reasons. This makes the work “diet” have a short term effect behind its meaning. People are under the assumption that if they diet for 3 months, they will lose weight. And if they stick to it they will. But then what? Most people YO YO back up to their starting weight.
Want to know the best way to manage your weight? Stop dieting and establish life long healthy lifestyle habits. A diet is nothing more that WHAT you eat. A bird’s diet is seeds. A horses diet is hay and grains. What is YOUR diet going to be? Create a healthy way of eating for the rest of your life. You will be able to manage your weight more effectively and never have to go on a diet ever again.

If you look up the word “fad” in the dictionary, it will come up with something along the lines of an intense and widely shared enthusiasm for something, esp. one that is short-lived and without basis in the object’s qualities; a craze. Now why on earth would you trust your diet, which is one of the basic needs for your good health, to a craze? To something that will fade away eventually. The secret to weight loss is not to avoid carbs, fats, yellow foods, solid foods, or food that starts with the letter “P”. The real trick is to lower your daily intake by about 100 calories if you can. You’ll hardly notice the difference, but it will add up in the long run to the tune of about 10 lbs a year. And when it comes to your health, you really need to think in the long run.
Stick to the basics when it comes to your diet. Lower your calorie intake, watch your portion size, eat fresh foods, stay away from fast foods and processed foods and stay clear of fad diets that will come and go. A good, balanced diet is always the key to staying healthy.
