You just get off of work. You are hungry. You know you should take the time to cut yourself some fresh greens, and some veggies and make yourself a nice salad. But you are tired because you just worked a long hard day, so you reach into the freezer, grab a Lean Cuisine and throw it in the microwave because it is quicker and easier.

We live in a world now where convenience sells – It is a microwave society. People are busy then every, running around, picking up kids, dropping off kids, going to Yoga, going to baseball practice, tweeting, facebooking, and whatever other things people do. People, in general, are looking for the fastest, easiest way to get things accomplished. And when you are tired, you really want to get a great tasting meal for the least amount of time possible.

Our Microwave society is what is making us have the highest obesity rating in the world. Since we are always looking for convenience, we never do what is optimal for our health. And I don’t blame you. There are times I get home from a full day of work and school and just want to relax. And sometimes I do. But if you really want to make good choices, you need to work hard.

Sadly, living healthy isn’t easy. You need to have self discipline and dedication to know that no matter how tired you are, your health depends on you making that rice and chicken, or that salad rather than that Lean Cuisine. But you need to realize that every time you take the easy route, you are not taking it easy on your body. Your heath is important to your livelihood and is worth taking the time and effort to ensure that you get the healthy food that your body needs. Get out of the Microwave society and start living healthy.

There is somethng that I see all the time that really bugs me. It’s people WANTING to make a change, NEEDING to make a change, but now actually making the change.

There are too many people in the world that read about the latest diet…and never change.

There are too many people in the world that read about the latest workout plan…and never change.

You can read this blog all you want. You will learn and know a vast amount of fitness and nutrition knowledge. However if you do not take that first step and actually put what you know into a plan of action, all the information is basically worthless.

The first step is always the hardest. But know that you can do. Believe in yourself. Know that the first step will lead to results. Results will lead to a healthier, longer life. No matter what your goal is, whether it is weight loss, create a better diet, run a marathon, write a book, get a new job, whatever it is, the first step is the most important step to take.

So, as much as I love you hanging out on this blog and reading what I write, I would rather see you outside walking. Or in the grocery store with a basket full of fruits and veggies. I know you can do it. You now need to know you can do it.

So go out and DO IT.

According to a recent study, 1 in 4 people in the US are on a diet. 1 in 4! People have misconstrued what it means to “diet”. You hear people all the time talking about how they are “on a diet”. A diet, if looked up in a dictionary, is defined as “the kinds of foods that a person, animal, or community habitually eat”. So to say “you are going on a diet” really sets yourself up for short term success. You are telling people I am going to temporarily change what I eat, to see if that will then in turn help me lose weight. A diet is simply what you eat. So instead of going on a diet, try changing your diet. Permanently. You know what you are suppose to eat. We all had it instilled in us by the food pyramid. Unfortunately, the food pyramid does not factor in the schedules of busy life. But don’t let that stop you. There are books such as Eat This Not That: Thousands of Simple Food Swaps That Can Save You 10, 20, 30 Pounds-or More! This book puts the entire food industry under the spotlight, and arms you with the savvy tricks and insider information it takes to eat well no matter where you are. It is a great read and allows you to be conscious of what you are eating. You don’t have to end your social life because you are changing you diet. Most of changing your eating habits is being knowledgeable of what to eat and what not to eat.
